The first annual Cape Ann Plein Air competition & festival celebrates the rich and storied history of painting outdoors on this beautiful North-of-Boston cape.

The weeklong festival builds upon the area’s plein air traditions with top level artists creating and selling their newly inspired work. Join us this fall, when the Cape Ann light is at its best, and watch the artists at work throughout all four of our waterfront communities. Acquire a work by renowned contemporary painters capturing the beauty of Cape Ann today, as you learn about the artists from the past like Fitz Henry Lane, Winslow Homer, William Morris Hunt, Childe Hassam, John Henry Twachtman, Frank Duveneck, Edward Henry Potthast, Edward Hopper, John Sloan, Maurice Pendergast, Marsden Hartley, and Stuart Davis to name just a few.

Enjoy a plein air experience as only Cape Ann can provide. Forty nationally recognized, professional, juried plein air artists will paint throughout the towns of Gloucester, Rockport, Essex and Manchester-by-the-Sea, while special events will provoke, entertain, delight and enlighten.
