An Itinerant Watercolorist

Written by Steve Doherty
There is a long tradition of artists traveling and soliciting commissions to paint portraits, landscapes, historic sites, and special events. David E. Dallison has been doing that since he left art school in 1987, either painting views of private homes or foreign locations. He recently returned from a trip to Burma (Myanmar) and Thailand with more than 60 watercolor paintings created on location.

Artist Profile: Peter Adams

Written by Steve Doherty
On the opening day of the 1st Annual Plein Air Convention & Expo, Peter Adams will offer an inspiring demonstration of how he uses plein air pastel paintings to create larger works in his studio using the same direct medium. He will be referring to some of the amazing pastels he has created that capture the light of a setting sun as it penetrates low-hanging clouds and reflects off water.
When Ed S. Brickler demonstrates painting materials and techniques on April 14th during the 1st Annual PleinAir Convention & Expo, he will offer information about new products and procedures that are tremendously valuable to plein air painters. In addition to being a professional artist, Brickler is the Fine Art Director & Technical Consultant for Canson, Arches, and Royal Talens.

Carl Judson

Written by Steve Doherty
Carl Judson ran a cattle ranch, volunteered in Central and South America, and secretly painted in a small paint box he could hide from the ranch cowboys. That little box became a prototype for the Guerrilla Boxes, the Official Pochade Boxes of the 1st Annual PleinAir Convention & Expo in Las Vegas from April 12-15, 2012. Carl is one of the fascinating personalities and dedicated plein air painters running the art-materials companies that are providing sponsorship and participating as exhibitors at the convention.
