Through March 29, painters and friends John P. Lasater IV and Jason Sacran are featured in the exhibition “Brotherhood” at the Merkle and Price Galleries in the South Arkansas Arts Center, in El Dorado, Arkansas.

“This show was one of my proudest moments, to see the fruit of years of hard work displayed so beautifully alongside my best friend, Jason,” says Lasater. “The South Arkansas Art Center allowed us to lay it out however we wanted, and it has a museum-like quality with generous spacing. Like Jason said, we would love to see this show stay on the road.”

On the plein air circuit, Sacran and Lasater are sometimes known as “the Arkansas boys,” and while they each have their individual achievements, they truly are often seen at the same events.

“Brotherhood seemed to be a fitting title for the two-man show John and myself were asked to have together,” says Sacran. “We have been best friends, like brothers, for nearly a decade. We have traveled the country together and experienced each step of our careers — whether the ups or downs, the plein air circuit, going full-time the same year, similar family situations, etc., together. So it was great to show works done from my/our many travels with my best friend and brother, John Lasater.

“The works were mostly plein air and some still life and portrait experimental pieces we’ve done in off season (winter time). We had a great reception at the South Arkansas Art Center, a fitting place to begin this exhibition as we are both living and raising families in the state. We are considering letting the exhibition travel, as it would be great to show in other venues, possibly adding and exchanging works to change it up each time it shows.”
