Modern master Len Chmiel is the subject of a solo show at the Steamboat Art Museum in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, now through April 9.

Chmiel, an instructor at last year’s Plein Air Convention & Expo (PACE) who had participants buzzing about his inspiring and surprising presentation, paints in a naturalistic way, but his influences run the gamut from Diebenkorn to Wyeth. The Colorado artist wriggles out of easy labels and speaks about art in a disarming, inviting way.
