About the Artist:

Born in Maryland, contemporary Impressionist and colorist Caroline Jasper now maintains her studio at her home in Florida. When not painting en plein air or in her studio, she is either travelling to teach or writing and developing instruction concepts.

Jasper’s paintings range from on-scene small to studio large. Her critically acclaimed works have been in solo and group exhibitions at museums and galleries throughout the United States. The artist’s paintings are held in private, celebrity, public, corporate, and museum collections internationally.

Author of books: “Powercolor-Master Color Concepts for All Media”, “Painters’ Guide and Color Manual”, feature artist in DVDs: “Landscape on Red Ground”, “Color Moves-Painting Water”, “Dramatic Depth in Painting”, “Powercolor-Volumes.1,2,3”, and self-publisher of instructional materials, Jasper’s works and words also appear in art magazines, newspaper articles, plus blogs and books by others.  An inspiring instructor, she draws on a Maryland Institute College of Art MFA, thirty plus years as secondary and college level art instructor, gallery and college lecturer, and exhibition juror. Jasper continues as a veteran workshop instructor in venues nationwide. Galleries in Arkansas, California, Florida, Maryland, North Carolina, and Texas represent her work.

Artist’s Statement:

Light is always my motivation and overriding influence in the goal of capturing my take on the fleeting moment. I love immersion in a big studio painting as well as the rush of trusting one’s instincts in painting on the fly en plein air. In either case, I freely exaggerate color differences and shift hues to communicate the intensity of visual experience. Expressive interpretation overrides observation. Each painting starts on a color ground, usually hot red, the axis for impact dynamics. A red ground invigorates visual interaction against loosely applied color.
