On the Ground, In the Wind, and by the Sea

British artist Anthony Garratt felt constrained while painting during the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebration in London on June 3 because he had to use an easel. He normally puts his large canvases on the ground, where he can incorporate sand, dirt, sea salt, rain, wind and other "bits of energy" into his paintings.

Just as this issue of the PleinAir Today e-newsletter was being finalized, we received photographs from two exciting plein air festivals that ended on Sunday, June 17. We'll report on the award winners next week, but here are some photos that were sent as the artists were still painting.
Members of the BayWood Artists were invited by the National Park Service to be part of the 50th-birthday celebration of Point Reyes National Seashore on June 2, 2012. Many of these artists are generous in supporting conservation programs.

Fresh Paint 2012 in Boston

More than 80 artists from the Copley Society of Art (Co/So) set up their easels to paint in Boston's most treasured spots. The focus of Fresh Paint 2010 that concluded on June 2, 2012 was on the green spaces surrounding Boston.
