Artist Ken Graning with "Huron River" (First Place, Overall)

First-time plein air events in 2017 abound, including Fresh! in Milford, Michigan, which featured 42 regional participants and an entertaining quick draw. Do you recognize the winners?

Between Friday, June 23 and Sunday, June 25, the Village Fine Arts Association in Milford, Michigan, hosted a vibrant plein air competition that featured a robust roster of 42 regional painters. Sponsored by the Michigan Plein Air Painters, an exhibition of original paintings completed during the event will be on view at the Suzanne Haskew Art Center through August 22.

Ken Graning was the First Place winner in 2017 for his painting “Huron River,” and Pamela Wilburn’s “Bittersweet” earned her Second Place. Rich Onica took home Third Place for “Summer Pond,” while Candace Brancik received Honorable Mention for “Sunlight on the Peninsula.”

The Quick Draw event saw three different winners, including Janice Dumas’ “Little Truths,” Sandra Difazio’s “Central Park View,” and Brant MacLean’s “Crawford Farm” in First, Second, and Third Place, respectively. Finally, Heiner Hertling’s “Powerhouse” received the Best of Milford Award in Memory of Suzanne Haskew.
