The landscape that artists know best is often directly outside their home, studio or office. We thought it would be interesting to ask plein air artists to send photographs of the paintings they have created of those familiar scenes, along with photographs of them at work outdoors. Here is a response we received from Californian Jim McVicker about a painting recently exhibited in the California Art Club’s 101st Gold Medal Show (www.jimmcvickerpaints.com).

The landscape artists know best is often directly outside their home, studio or office, so we thought it would be interesting to ask plein air artists to send photographs of the paintings they have created of those familiar scenes, along with photographs of them at work outdoors. The idea was suggested by New Zealand artist Jan Thomson who lives at Nelson Lakes National Park in the South Island where she often paints in watercolor and oil.
