The 2nd annual Great Vermont Plein Air Paint-Out in the Mad River Valley was a huge success. Sponsored by the Valley Arts Foundation and the Big Red Barn Art Show, artists spent Saturday, August 18 "Painting the Village."

The day began with registration and a continental breakfast at the Paint-Out headquarters, located on the porch of Artisans' Gallery on Bridge Street in Waitsfield, Vermont. Artists then dispersed to sites in and around historic Waitsfield Village and spent the day painting (or drawing, or sketching) the beautiful local scenery. Painting continued until 2:30 p.m., at which time artists gathered for a sidewalk art show and sale on Bridge Street from 3 to 5 p.m.

To add to the festival within the Festival, other events were held by galleries, shops, and restaurants in Waitsfield. Local businesses were prepared to offer covered porches and other venues to keep the artists' creative juices flowing and patrons dry, but it turned out to be a gloriously sunny day.

The event was organized by Dotty Kyle of the Big Red Barn Art Show and Gary Eckhart of the Valley Arts Foundation, both in Waitsfield. For more information, visit www.vermontartfest.com.
