Making a painting trip to Glacier National Park with two friends got Ruth Ann Sturgill warmed up for the annual Susan K. Black Art Conference in Dubois, Wyoming (September 17-23, 2012). She won First Place in Oils in the competition held during the conference.

“Wanda Mumm, Terry Smith and I recently took advantage of the opportunity to paint while we were visiting Glacier National Park,” Sturgill reports. “The winds were pretty strong, but two of us had our Soltek easels and they held up just fine. It was quite the challenge, but a fabulous day all around. We saw grizzly bear cubs and their mama way down below on the beach. Wish we could have stayed and painted for a few more days.

“We traveled on to Dubois and during the awards ceremony for the art show my painting titled Revealing My Inner Self won First Place in Oil. So my motto, ‘Never give up,’ proves to be valid once again. Just when we are down on our abilities, validation can come in may forms. For all my creative friends who are struggling right now with the same issue, may this spur you on!”
