It may have passed under your radar in its inaugural year, but there’s no excuse in 2017 as Cape Ann Plein Air brings painters to Coastal Massachusetts to paint some of the most storied motifs in American art.

The event secured two plein air heroes to judge the event. Shelby Keefe will jury in the artists, and Marc Hanson will judge the competition. Cape Ann Plein Air runs October 8-16, with its base of operations in Rockport, Massachusetts, and the three neighboring communities of Gloucester, Essex, and Manchester-by-the-Sea. How many of the participating artists will resist painting the famed Motif No. 1, a red fishing shack on a wharf in Rockport?

Lisa Egeli won First Place last year at Cape Ann with this painting.

The event is extraordinarily rich for a competition only in its second year; awards in 2017 will total more than $17,000. The deadline for entry is May 1. Get the prospectus here.
