Scott Lloyd Anderson forgot his tripod during a recent visit to his sister’s cabin in the woods. No problem.

Lead Image: Scott Lloyd Anderson found enough stuff at his sister’s cabin to fashion an improvised easel.

Anderson’s workaround might seem precarious, but the Minnesota artist reports that it worked just fine — and the painting turned out fine, too. “The improvised setup wasn’t too rickety, although I did have to lay off the dramatic ‘oh so bravura’ brushstrokes so the canvas didn’t go flying,” says Anderson. “I see the flimsy things Sargent’s peers painted on … they weren’t a heck of a lot more stable.”
