Using Watercolors on Location

In the digital edition of the February/March issue of PleinAir magazine, Minnesota artist Andy Evansen (www.andyevansen.com) offers a demonstration of how he uses quick value studies to establish effective compositions of his plein air landscape. He also provides an explanation of how he used one of those sketches when painting on location with transparent watercolors.

Most of the members of the prestigious Plein-Air Painters of America (PAPA) and several invited artists attended the opening of The Allure of Water exhibition at the Haggin Museum of Art in Stockton, California. The artists also offered outdoor painting demonstrations and painted in nearby vineyards and on private estates from October 11-16, 2011.
