It is often hard to know what to charge for a plein air painting, especially at a festival, quick draw competition, or in a commercial gallery. We thought it might be helpful to show what plein air painters are asking for work that is available for sale through various websites.
The Bucks County Gallery of Fine Art in historic New Hope, Pennsylvania, is presenting its first "Local Color" juried plein air invitational over the weekend of July 26-29, 2012; paintings by artists from around the country will be judged by Joseph Sweeney. Two exhibitions that include plein air paintings explore the ways artists capture the illusive appearance of bodies of water, one currently on view in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the other opening in Stockton, California in October, 2011.
Joseph Sweeney, a pastel painter featured in PleinAirTM Magazine’s new digital edition, was recently filmed doing a demonstration of pastel painting outdoors along a Delaware beach for WHYY Video’s “First” program. The short program airs on Friday June 17 at 5:30pm (Eastern Daylight Time), and will be available for further viewing on the PBS network’s website.
