Events Accepting Applications

Here are a few upcoming plein air events in California, Wisconsin, Utah and New Jersey that are accepting applications from artists who want to participate. Some events require artists to first apply for membership, and others are open to non-members.

LAPAPA plans Two Events

Laguna Plein Air Painters Association (LPAPA) and The Pacific Art Foundation will be hosting two events at the Pacific Club in Newport Beach, California, both of them lead by Jean Stern, the Executive Director of the Irvine Museum. On Thursday April 5, Stern will moderate a forum on contemporary landscape painting from 6-9pm; and on Saturday May 19 he will reveal his choices in the exhibition and sale of paintings by featured members of LAPAPA.

The presentation Thomas Jefferson Kitts makes in Red Rock National Conservation Area during the 1st PleinAir Convention & Expo will cover a remarkably wide range of materials and techniques. That’s because the Oregon artist is amazingly knowledgeable and has won major awards in plein air competition, and because he teaches comprehensive workshops on both outdoor painting and studio practices.

Artist Profile: Ray Roberts

California plein air painter Ray Roberts has been showered with top awards in art competitions in recent years, including the First Place prize in the May/June bi-monthly competition in the 1st Annual PleinAir Salon competition, the Gold Medal in the California Art Club (CAC) annual competition, the coveted Artists’ Choice Award in the CAC competition. On August 27, Roberts won the Best of Show award at the Maynard Dixon Country event in Mt. Carmel, Utah.
