Seeing God in Nature

In the August/September issue of PleinAir magazine, Michael Albrechtsen talked about how educating yourself about the botany, biology, geology, and the climate of a particular landscape can help you paint a more effective picture. In addition to his interest in the sciences, nature means something more to the Utah native and Kansas resident: an awe-inspiring example of God's creation.

BBC Television invited a group of plein air artists to document the Thames Jubilee Pageant in honor of Queen Elizabeth II, and despite heavy rains, a few of the artists were able to create sketches and paintings. David Pilgrim, a member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, was one of those who managed to paint pageant scenes during the downpour.
