Ten artists were awarded top prizes in PleinAir magazine’s June/July contest, part of the PleinAir Salon. Were you or one of your friends on the winners’ list?

“The Force and the Flow,” by Sheri Farabaugh, oil, 30 x 60 in. Second Place

Robin Knowlton, the founder and owner of Knowlton Gallery in Lodi, California, served as judge for the contest. “It was hard!” she reports. “Only because there were so many strong paintings that getting down to the winners — well, it was difficult to eliminate more than a few really strong paintings.”

Scott Hiestand earned First Place for his acrylic painting “Glades.” Second Place went to Sheri Farabaugh’s oil painting “The Force and the Flow.” Third Place was won by John Slivjak for his oil “Beach Figures.”

The PleinAir Salon consists of six bi-monthly contests, with all category winners in each contest automatically entered into the annual competition. First prize in the annual competition is $15,000 cash and the publication of the winning image on the cover of PleinAir magazine, along with a feature story. Second Place earns an artist $3,000 and an article in the digital edition of PleinAir magazine. Third Place yields $1,500 in cash. Three additional finalists win $500.
