The Maui Plein Air Painting Invitational is a bright spot each February, and on top of the fine weather and colorful views, some artists leave the event with awards. Who wowed the crowd this year?

Leon Holmes won Best of Show with his painting “Head East.” John Poon took home Artists’ Choice for “Coastal Overlook,” and Carl Bretzke earned Collectors’ Choice honors with “Lahaina Harbor After Dark.”

The event was capped by a gala featuring wonderfully presented gourmet food and performances by the IONA Contemporary Dance Theatre. None of the pictures from the Plein Air Invitational showed anyone with less than a wide grin.
