A group of British plein air painters who formed a bond of camaraderie and mutual support call themselves the Plein Air Brotherhood (PAB). They will present their second exhibition at the A & K Wilson Gallery Ltd gallery in Hertfordshire, England during the month of October.

Membership of this “band of brothers” is by organic friendship, not committee or selection panel. Currently, the Brotherhood includes artists Adebanji Alade, Antony Bridge, Roy Connelly, John Dobbs, David Pilgrim, and Karl Terry. The group formed when the artists become aware of each other through chance meetings while painting and viewing exhibitions such as the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and the Bath Prize plein air competition.

“Last year we were delighted to have staked a claim to a place in the art history books by staging the inaugural exhibition of the Plein Air Brotherhood,” says a spokesperson for the A & K Wilson Gallery. “It was a great success, and this year we hope to continue the winning formula by staging the second annual exhibition. For the month of October we shall be giving the gallery over to the Brotherhood. If you keep your eyes peeled during the exhibition, you may spot some of the artists out in the street doing what they do best, painting en plein air. They hope to paint here in Harpenden and also in St. Albans.” For more information, www.pleinairbrotherhood.co.uk or www.akwilsongallery.co.uk.
