This soft monochromatic piece evokes a lot of inviting atmosphere. Mist or fog often blurs the lines between land and sky, making objects feel like they are floating a bit. The strong shape of the foreground boat anchors these shapes while adding a focal point to the ethereal mood. To keep the gray palette from becoming too cold, the artist has allowed the warm tones of the underpainting to show through.
