“Water and rocks have attracted me as a subject to draw and paint for many years,” says Eileen. “I return to coastal locations repeatedly to study both the subtle and drastic changes brought on by weather, tide and time of day and season including the rocky coasts of New England where I live. Last March I had the pleasure of painting in California for a month.

“This painting from Dana Point, just south of Laguna Beach, was the culmination of several afternoons of drawing, making studies, and then painting a large 16 x 20 in. canvas on location at low tide. The beach was generally empty except for a few occasional beach walkers due to the wind and cool weather. The faraway hillside is a dramatic a steep wall with the beach area accessible by a long series of steps. For this painting, I was particularly drawn to the long shallow sloping beach which provided a wide area of reflective water as waves washed in and out.”
