Painting in Paradise (Paint Out, That Is)

The break is over. Plein air painting events are gearing back up again, with Florida understandably leading the way. Who won at the recent Paradise Paint Out, in the Florida Keys?

The Florida Keys Children’s Shelter was the producer of the show, with 21 artists creating work to benefit both the shelter and Florida Bay Forever, a conservation group.

The winners of the eight-day event were announced at the January 18 Patron’s Party. Haidee-Jo Summers and Jason Sacran tied in the voting for Artists’ Choice. The two painters happily agreed to share the award, which included $1,000 in cash and a full-page ad in PleinAir magazine, one of the sponsors.

Sacran also won People’s Choice, which netted him $500 in cash and a slot as Featured Artwork on OutdoorPainter.com, PleinAir magazine’s website.

Organizers reported sales in the six-digit range. For more information on the event, go here.
