Colette Pitcher:

Where do I find inspiration? The way light glints off a surface, seeing something new while traveling, an attractive repeating pattern – these are just some things that catch my attention and give me a reason to paint. Always be on the lookout for visual compositions. You never know where and when one will hit you. Snap a photo to remember the inspiration. Save it till you need an idea to create art. Sometimes a new technique will inspire you to discover ideas. You do not need to travel far (although that is fun). Grab the camera (or phone) and go on a photo safari around the block. Collect images until they gel into an artwork idea. Create your own deadline: one a day, 3 a week, whatever. Enter shows for a deadline reason to paint. Keep those eyes open. Your next best work might just be around the corner.
