“High Desert Beauty is a culmination of studies done on several trips to Bishop, California. Bishop lies at the base of the beautiful and majestic Eastern Sierras and everywhere you look there is inspiration. To be there with painting buddies, sharing the experience, is just the best ever even when we are rolling out of bed at 5:30am to catch the sunrise. I can’t get enough of this magical place and am excited to go back.
Painting is like breathing to me, it’s a necessity. Since I was five years old, I knew I wanted to be an artist. My life took a turn after entering a University where representational art was frowned upon. I thought, well, I guess I’m not an artist and changed schools and careers. I didn’t paint for 30 years! Finally the time came when I could take some workshops and that was it. Painting was my passion and became a very important part of my life ever since. I was drawn to the landscape but at the same time I found in overwhelming. I knew I had to go out and spend a lot time observing the beauty before me and understand how the light drapes across the landscape in order to translate my feeling to the painting. I gradually realized that the power of the landscape wasn’t in the details but in the shapes and values. It was also in the experience of the breeze, rustle of leaves, scent of the ocean in the air, an emersion in nature. This gave me the freedom to experiment more.”
Recently awarded “Best Pastel” in the 2019/2020 December/January Plein Air Salon, Linda is a Distinquished Pastelist with Pastel Society of the West Coast, Signature Member of Pastel Society of America, Master Circle Pastelist with International Association of Pastel Societies, Signature Member of American Women Artists and Artist Member with California Art Club.
