Plein air watercolor
Mario Robinson, “The Inlet,” watercolor, 15 x 15 in.

Mario Robinson is known for his watercolor paintings, but in this PleinAir Art Podcast, he takes us further into his processes for painting en plein air. Publisher Eric Rhoads asks Robinson to tell us more about his strategy for plein air, including painting the figure in outdoor scenes.

Robinson also talks about what it was like to serve in the U.S. Army for four years. “It was an experience,” he says, but once he was out, “I was happy and relieved to go to art school because it was more of my element. I was drawing while I was in the Army and trying to keep it going in the barracks, but there’s nothing like being in a creative atmosphere.”
