The Gray Area Foundation for the Arts, a well-established nonprofit in the San Francisco area, is raising money online to help the survivors and the families of the victims of the December 2 Oakland warehouse fire that claimed 36 people, many of them artists and musicians.

The fire killed 36 of the 50 people who were in the building, dubbed “Ghost Ship.” The building was not up to code, and electrical issues are thought to be to blame. Additionally, a makeshift staircase constructed of stacked wooden pallets quickly burned away, trapping people on the second floor.
