Awards were recently announced for America’s Parks Through the Beauty of Art, an international art competition and exhibition intended to recognize and promote excellence in original works of art depicting any park in North America. Find out who won awards.

In November 2012, jurors selected 101 artworks for the America’s Parks I touring exhibition. Original, two-dimensional works of art completed in 2010, ’11, or ’12 were eligible for entry. Jurors included M. Stephen Doherty, editor, PleinAir magazine; Susan T. Fisher, past president, American Society of Botanical Artists and former director of the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum Art Institute; and Todd Wilkinson, managing editor of Wildlife Art Journal. The top 50 will be included in a national tour to three venues.

Award winners included Alexandra Tyng (America’s Parks Curator’s Choice Award, $1,000), Ronnie Willford (Arizona-Sonora Desert Juror’s Choice Award, $1,000), Aaron Schuerr (PleinAir magazine Juror’s Choice Award, $1,000), Ezra Tucker (Society of Animal Artists Wildlife Art Award, $1,000), Rhonda Nass (Susan Kathleen Black Foundation Floral Art Award, $1,000), and Mark Susinno (Wildlife Art Journal Juror’s Choice Award, $1,000). Honorable Mention awards were given to David Gallup, Mary Garrish, and Susan Elwart Hall.

The exhibition will be on view at the following venues: March 17-April 14, 2013 at the Ella Carothers Dunnegan Gallery of Art in Bolivar, Missouri; May 18-July 28, 2013 at the Roger Tory Peterson Institute of Natural History, Jamestown, New York; and August 17-October 13, 2013 at the Kenosha Public Museums in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
