Flying High is Laurel Daniel’s response to the marsh skies on the Georgia coastline, a location she returns to often. Whether painting en plein air or just taking a walk, this natural setting always offers something new. The turning of the seasons, the shifting of the tides, and the ever-changing light continually draw her back for inspiration and observation.
Laurel Daniel was born in 1956 in Racine, Wisconsin, and graduated with a studio art degree in 1979 from Wheaton College in Illinois. After almost 20 years in the graphic design business, she returned to oil painting in 1999 and has never stopped. Daniel shares her joy of painting with budding artists of all ages through workshops in Austin, Texas, and St. Simons Island, Georgia. She also touches countless students all over the world with her two oil painting videos available through Liliedahl Art Instruction Videos.
Daniel is a Signature Member of the American Women Artists, Signature Member of the Outdoor Painters Society, member and past president of Plein Air Austin and an Associate Member of the Oil Painters of America. Laurel’s work is in many private and corporate collections; and has been published in Southwest Art Magazine, PleinAir Magazine, American Art Collector Magazine and International Artist Magazine.
“As a plein air painter, I begin outside working quickly to discern the shifting patterns of shadows and light. Back in my studio, I try to paint with the same closely observed spontaneity. Capturing a moment in time is an impossible task, but for me, an endlessly compelling one.”
