Sherry Mason: Sherry Mason renders landscape paintings conceived through her plein air work. By starting each painting with a grisaille/ imprimatura underpainting, the experience is embedded into the rendering through a process called gradualism. It allows for the painting to gradually evolve as the landscape and the painting are simultaneously experienced. The subsequent applications of color through glazing and scumbling give it an intimacy with the landscape not normally experienced by the viewer.
