For years, artist Cory Trepanier has explored some of the wildest places in Canada. Few have walked in these landscapes. Even fewer have captured them on canvas. Now he’s going further into remote lands that are more challenging and more dangerous. This new film documents his journey into a breathtaking arctic wilderness to experience and paint a land that might never be the same again. Voting for the Canadian Screen Award Arts category takes place on February 27 in Toronto.

  1. Are these really plein air paintings? I think not! I thought this contest was to award exceptional plein air work, not studio painting. This comment has been made before but I have not seen any reply. PLEASE address this issue. I will not enter any more until it is clarified!!

  3. The rules announced in January allow for both studio and plein air paintings, and it would be wrong to change those in the midst of the competition. Here are the rules:

“All painting subjects accepted including studio and plein air works of any subject matter including, but not limited to landscape, architecture, still life, figurative, or portraiture in any size and made with any medium including oil, watercolor, acrylic, pastel, and others.”

By the way, the top winner selected by James Gurney, Scott Lloyd Anderson, is a dedicated outdoor painter who recently won top award in the 9th Annual Grand Marais Art Colony competition in Minnesota, and he has won awards in a number of other important plein air event.
