Painting Other Painters: A Plein Air Tidbit

Chad Smith, “The Inimitable Mr. Larsen,” 2017, oil, 20 x 16 inches, collection of the artist, plein air

Painters often wind up painting close to one another at designated sites or favorite locations, and that’s what happened when Chad Smith and Kirk Larsen found themselves painting side by side during the 2017 Solomons (MD) Plein Air Festival.

Smith became more interested in Larsen’s animated stance than in the painting site, so he used the painter/actor as the subject of his plein air painting.
