Known to her friends and fellow painters as an enthusiastic, “lets-do-it” kind of artist, Susie Hyer says, “I can always set up some kind of challenge for myself, something I want to explore with painting.” You can find her painting in 90-degree heat on a Denver sidewalk, standing knee-deep in snow or on snowshoes, or painting at night with a headlamp.

Susie was recently given the Comenius Award from Moravian University. The award is given in recognition of outstanding achievement or service in an alumna’s or alumnus’ field of work. This is the Alumni Association’s lifetime achievement award; it is the first time the award has been given to a woman artist and the second time it has been given to an artist.
