It’s the 14th annual “Just Plein Fun,” where 10 invited and award-winning artists from around the country come to paint on Balboa Island for the week of July 29–August 2. The week-long event is celebrated on the last day with a “Brush Off ” paint-out on Marine Avenue. The gala and reception, with awards and prizes given out, follows immediately on Friday evening at the gallery. Don’t miss this chance to follow your favorite plein air artists and collect their beautiful works of charming and quaint Balboa Island. Forty juried artists will paint tree-lined streets; stately Victorian homes and shops; marinas; historic naval ships and naval air station; beaches; parks; and San Francisco and Oakland skylines in the small island city of Alameda, California. There will be a quick draw and an exhibit and sale of all the paintings on Saturday. A selection of the unsold paintings from the big sale are exhibited and for sale in the Frank Bette Center for the Arts Gallery through September.

Please join us for a week of wonderful art experiences in beautiful Teton Valley, Idaho. The 8th Annual Driggs Plein Air festival and competition is held on the west side of the Tetons in Driggs, Idaho. Artists and collectors enjoy many activities, including the week-long Exhibition & Sale of works by over 70 artists, Opening Reception, Paint-Outs at two music concerts, Quick Draw Competitions, workshops, demonstrations, Competition Award Ceremony, and the Closing Reception. In 2019, Plein Air Easton will celebrate its 15th year! PAE sets the bar for outdoor painting competitions. Fifty-eight artists are selected from hundreds of applications submitted from the world over. Artists will engage in an intense competition as they set out across the Eastern Shore landscape in search of the location that will produce a winning canvas. The week of the competition is celebrated with events, exhibitions, demos, and workshops — many of these are free and open to the public. The excitement builds until the final weekend at the Collector’s Party, Quick Draw, and Small Painting Sunday events, July 19–21.

The Questa area of northern New Mexico, a half-hour north of Taos, is full of places artists love to paint. Protected wilderness surrounds this tiny village, with scenery that includes mountaintop lakes, river chasms, and hidden meadows. Humble, near-forgotten structures hint at a former life of agriculture and sheep ranches. Artists will participate in a four-day paint-out, a quick draw, artist demonstrations, and an artist swap. There will be two divisions of awards, the Traditional and the Non-Traditional. Come join in on the fun. This is an open-format event.

AdkAction’s 3rd Annual Keeseville Plein Air Festival is an effort to bring the attention of talented artists to the hamlet of Keeseville, New York, and aid in community revitalization efforts. This event is a great opportunity for artists to experience the wonder of Keeseville’s historic architecture, the famous Ausable Chasm, and other local rivers and lakes, and the breathtaking agricultural community. Each July, Paint Peggy’s Cove engages 40 artists in painting the beautiful maritime features of this iconic fishing village. Work is displayed and sold in the large Festival Yurt. Artists can register to participate as plein painters only, or to include a small display of previous completed works in the yurt as well. There are 32 of these places, and eight for those choosing to display only plein air works. Over 2,000 visit the yurt during the event, and sales are handled by volunteers.
