From October 4-6, 2012, the Sangres Art Guild sponsored the 6th Annual Plein Air Paint-Out, with the finished artwork exhibited at the 3rd Street Gallery. The judge of the event, Stephen C. Datz, selected three award winners.

“We had 27 artists entering 74 artworks in the Plein Air Paint-Out contest, and another 57 entries in our separate Plein Air Show,” reports Curt Gillespie, president of the Sangres Art Guild. “The quality of the art is superb, and it is now hanging in the 3rd Street Gallery in Westcliffe, Colorado, through the end of the month.”

The First Place, $1,000 NatureWalk Living Award was presented to Cliff Austin for his painting “Clone of Aspens.” The Second Place award ($300) went to Tom Lockhart for his painting “Road to Gold,” and the Third Place Award ($200) was given to Coni Grant for “Indian Summer.” Honorable Mentions went to Curt Gillespie (A Painted View award), Cliff Austin (Front Range Frames award), and the Judson’s Art Outfitters award ($150 gift certificate) was presented to Jeanene Parker. The Colorado Framesmith award was won by Lorie Merfeld-Batson, and a second Judson’s Art Outfitters award ($100 gift certificate) went to Susan McCullough. The Colorado Framesmith award was won by Ken Hartman, and a third Judson’s Art Outfitters award ($50 gift certificate) went to Sarah Woods. Finally, a third Colorado Framesmith award was won by Mark Day, and the Golden Artists Colors award (a set of six Golden Open Acrylics) was presented to Jeannie Truitt.
