During the 9th Annual Escalante Canyons Art Festival — Everett Ruess Days in Escalante Canyons, Colorado, a plein air painting competition was held September 28-29, 2012. Awards totaling $8,000 were presented, including two Best of Show Purchase Awards of $1,500 each. Find out who went home with those prizes.

Three individuals from the local community judged the annual event and presented two Best of Show awards during the 9th Annual Escalante Canyons Art Festival. One award was given in the category of watercolor/mixed media and the other in an oil/acrylic media category. This year’s event was called “Paint the Town” and was held September 26, but participating artists were allowed to go as far as one mile away from the Escalante Town Park to pain the buttes and pastures as well as the historic downtown buildings.
