A quintessential painter of life on the Pacific, Armin Hansen receives a large-scale retrospective exhibition nearly 60 years after his death.

The Pasadena Museum of California Art will be the first institution to welcome the largest-ever survey of artworks by Armin Hansen (1886-1957). “Armin Hansen: The Artful Voyage” opens January 25, and the show will remain on view through May 31.

The show comprises more than 100 artworks, including multiple examples of Hansen’s characteristic, poignant images of Monterey fishermen and their life on the water. The exhibition offers an unfortunately rare opportunity for art lovers to become acquainted with Hansen’s art; some of the paintings will be on public display for the first time. The paintings will be accompanied by rarely shown examples of Hansen’s hand-carved furniture and boat models.
