Every year, more than 100 plein air painters gather near the Canada border in the Adirondack Mountains to paint in a collegiate setting, with no pressure and lots of painting on the agenda. It’s the Publisher’s Invitational, and it’s about filled up.

PleinAir magazine publisher Eric Rhoads hosts the event, which is scheduled for June 11-18. The group paints at some locations favored by the historic Hudson River School painters. In addition to beautiful streams and forest views, participants will have the chance to paint striking waterfalls and pastoral scenes.

The only fee associated with the event covers food and lodging — participants stay on campus at Paul Smith’s College near Saranac Lake, New York. There is a strict “no drama” rule that past painters have enjoyed nearly as much as the painting itself. The Publisher’s Invitational in the Adirondacks is both fun and productive.
