How do you find inspiration?
Brienne M Brown: I find beauty in everyday life, the so called “mundane”. Ordinary people going about their everyday lives inspire me. I especially enjoy painting en plein air, where each painting reminds me of where I was, of the experiences I had, the sounds, smells, and the people I met. My paintings are always more about a moment in time than about a particular location. Therefore, before I set-up to paint, I spend time walking around experiencing a place. I find this is the best way to capture the essence of a location.

What is the best thing about being an artist?
Brienne M Brown: Besides the joy of creating a painting that expresses how I feel and how I see the world, I have enjoyed traveling to wonderful painting locations and meeting people along the way. Some of my favorite plein air painting experiences have been meeting the local people and hearing the history of a place. Even though I can’t get these experiences while painting in my studio, these experiences affect my studio paintings as well. This connection between the locations and my work is one of my favorite things about being an artist.
