It’s only in its second year, but EnPleinAir TEXAS is quickly becoming a favorite stop on the plein air painting circuit.
 
The 2016 edition just wrapped up in San Angelo, Texas, with Gay Faulkenberry serving as judge of the competition.

The Grand Prize — the Elta Joyce Murphey Award — went to Shelby Keefe for “Old Texas Theater.” Second Place went to Jason Sacran for “The Golden Moment”; Sacran also won Artists’ Choice for that piece. Mary Pettis won Third with “Breakfast at Treva’s.”

Tim Oliver won People’s Choice for his watercolor “Angelo Pellets.” The Museum Purchase Award, given by the event’s host, the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, went to Jill Basham for “Texas Ribbon.” John Lasater won the Spirit of San Angelo Award for “Oakes Bridge.” Suzie Baker won the West Texas Landscape Award for “Birds on a Wire,” while the Texas Ranchlands Award was won by Susan McCullough with “The Long View.” Hiu Lai Chong’s “Lights on the Concho River” won the West Texas Light Award, and Patrick Saunders won Best Architectural Painting with his “Behind the Blacksmith Shop.” The West Texas Precious Water Award was won by Bob Rohm for “Concho Reflections.”

The organizer announced next year’s dates; the third annual EnPleinAir TEXAS event will be held October 23-30, with submissions accepted in January.
