Plein Air Smokies
Prior to the 'Plein Air Smokies' event, students from local high schools will dive into the world of plein air painting, guided by professional artists, all set against the breathtaking backdrop of Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Students have the opportunity to sell their artwork, with part of the proceeds benefiting Friends of the Smokies. Pictured: Alice Fisher, a local high school Art Teacher, received plein pir art supplies for 15 students who will paint in the park.

‘Plein Air Smokies’ will once again bring 20 nationally acclaimed artists to paint “en plein air” (outdoors) throughout the national park. Spectators are welcome to watch artists paint September 24-27.

Artists will be positioned across the park throughout the week, with locations such as Cades Cove on Monday and Elkmont on Tuesday and Wednesday.

These one-of-a-kind paintings will be available for purchase first at the ticketed Collectors Soiree on September 29, and then at the public sale on September 30. Proceeds benefit the Great Smoky Mountains National Park (GSMNP).

For the 2023 event, artists were selected through a juror process. Over 100 artists across the country applied and 18 were selected to join last year’s Best in Show and Quick Draw winners, for a total of 20 participating artists.
