DEADLINE APPROACHING FOR PLEINAIR SALON COMPETITION. Only a few days remain to enter the September/October portion of the PleinAir magazine Salon competition that will result in prizes being awarded by the judge, Michael Zakian, director of the Frederick R. Weisman Museum of Art at Pepperdine University. After the deadline of October 31, 2012, three award winners and nine semi-finalist paintings will be selected. Those semi-final works become eligible for the $20,000 in cash prizes to be during the Plein Air Convention & Expo, to be held in Monterey, California, April 10-14, 2013. TEXAS ARTISTS ELIGIBLE FOR $50,000 PRIZE. The Hunting Art Prize of $50,000 will be awarded to a Texas artist who enters work electronically by the deadline of November 30, 2012. The prize, established in 1981, is sponsored by the international oil services company Hunting PLC. Internationally renowned artist Steve Huston will serve as the judge of a national juried exhibition aimed at reconsidering traditional and contemporary approaches to the figure. Fontbonne University Fine Arts Gallery in Clayton, Missouri, is organizing this juried exhibition with a top award of $1,000. The deadline to enter is December 1, 2012.
