St. Paul, Minnesota, artist Brian Stewart is the subject of a solo show in the Minnesota State Capitol Building, February 28 through March 8.

More than 40 paintings, many of them plein air, will comprise the show, which is titled “Land of 10,000 Paintings.”

“The Neighborhood,” by Brian Stewart, oil, 8 x 10 in.

“Monday in St. Paul,” by Brian Stewart, oil, 9 x 12 in.

“Duluth -23 Below,” by Brian Stewart, oil, 8 x 10 in.

“My goal was to do a show of plein air and studio paintings that celebrated the regions, seasons, and people of Minnesota by trying to do as much variety as I could,” says Stewart. “The generous grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board allowed me ample travel, food, and lodging expenses and a quality presentation and great framing. I wanted to do it because I don’t think Minnesota is thought of as a place that would offer great subjects and stories in paint.”
