October 3 through January 21, the Irvine Museum in Irvine, California, is hosting a show titled “Independent Visions: Women Artists of California 1880-1940,” and plein air artists with an appreciation of history will want to make plans to see it.

The pieces in the show demonstrate the artists’ ability to not just execute landscapes, but also portraits, still lifes, and figure paintings. A variety of approaches are evident in the selection, from sculpture to murals, from stylized, modern looks to faithful depictions of plein air scenes.

For more information, visit the museum’s webpage on the show.
