Alexey Steele demonstrating during an early stage of the portrait painting process

The latest instructional DVD from Streamline Publishing showcases one of the most gifted, well-trained, articulate, and outlandish contemporary artists, Alexey Steele. For the first time, Steele reveals the portrait painting techniques of the Russian masters.

The artist’s spacious studio in Los Angeles

In this expertly filmed and edited DVD program, Californian Alexey Steele offers the benefits of the disciplined training he received in Russia as well as the experience he has had in the U.S. painting captivating portraits. Trained in Moscow at the world-renowned Surikov Institute of the Russian Academy, considered the finest art school in the world, Steele studied under the top masters at the school. Unlike art schools in America, fewer than 20 students are accepted into the Surikov Institute annually, after exhaustive demonstrations of their proficiency. Steele, the son of renowned Russian master Leonid Steele, became a master in his own right and today works from a position of influence in his Los Angeles studio. Steele is not only a brilliant artist, but a colorful and exuberant defender and leader of the new realism movement.
