Growing up near the ocean in Connecticut, Nancy Silvia says one of her earliest visual memories is of the horizon line, and her earliest influences as an artist were the marine paintings of New England. Drawing and painting have been a primary activity throughout her life.
Silvia earned a BFA in Painting from Rhode Island School of Design and an MFA in Painting from Yale University. Her senior year at RISD was spent in Rome on the European Honors Program. She has been awarded residency grants at The Ragdale Foundation in Illinois and The Ucross Foundation in Wyoming.
Silvia’s professional memberships include the American Society of Marine Artists, and Signature status in Pastel Society of America, Pastel Society of New Mexico, and Plein Air Painters of New Mexico. Nancy has volunteered at PAPNM for many years, and served as President in 2012.
Silvia’s work has been exhibited for over 30 years in both the USA and Japan. She has lived in Santa Fe, New Mexico, since 2003, finding inspiration from the skies and landforms of the West.
