This aptly named event recently named its winners. Who enjoyed spring in Indiana last week?

First Brush of Spring, held yearly in New Harmony, Indiana, gives awards for plein air studies done during the event, studio paintings based on studies done the previous year, and for a pair (field study and resultant studio painting). This year, the event’s 13th, Bob Beck served as judge.

Beck awarded Best of Show to Wyatt LeGrand for his oil painting “Love Regan.” Other winners for studio work included David Seward, for “Harmony Homestead”; Carol Strock-Wasson, for “Behind the Barn Abbey”; and Stephanie Paige Thomson, for “The Street Revisited.”

Thomas Buchs won Best Field Study for the oil painting “Firehouse Antiques,” and Best Pair was won by Rebecca Justice-Schaab for “Squats Made Perfect.”
