Here’s a challenge: Take a huge subject, such as mountains, or sprawling prairies, or roiling oceans, and depict it in a small work. California plein air artist Glenn Dean does just that in his solo show at Maxwell Alexander Gallery, in Culver City, California.

Most of the pieces in the exhibition are 9″ x 12″, and all of them show Dean’s skill at advancing the California plein air style with touches of impressionism. In a unique twist, the pieces in the exhibition are presented in handmade Arts and Crafts-style frames. The show closes the first week of May.
