Lyn Boyer, “Hope,” oil on linen, 36 x 24 inches (Collectors’ Choice Award)

PleinAir Today can’t go too long without mentioning the Grand Canyon again because, well, it’s such a magnetic subject for outdoor painters, event organizers, and so much more. One of the largest events involving plein air and the canyon — the Grand Canyon Celebration of Art — recently concluded with those familiar fantastic results.

Presented by the Grand Canyon Association, each year many nationally recognized artists gather at Grand Canyon National Park for the Celebration of Art festival. Fine Art Connoisseur and PleinAir magazines are proud to sponsor the event each year as well!

Elizabeth Black, “Chuckwalla’s Dominion: Clear Creek Trail,” oil, 48 x 24 inches (Best of Show)
Bruce Gomez, “La Vista Olvidada, Yaki Point,” watercolor and pastel on paper, 30 x 17 inches (Artists’ Choice Award)

September 9-17, artists gathered in and around the South Rim of the landmark to capture its beauty with their unique creative touch. Among the scheduled events were a Quick Draw and numerous artist demonstrations.

James McGrew, “Midnight Storm Clearing,” 36 x 24 inches (People’s Choice Award)
Michelle Condrat, “A Canyon of Colors,” oil, 29 x 29 inches

Elizabeth Black was the Best of Show winner, with the award presented by PleinAir magazine. The Collectors’ Choice Award — presented by Fine Art Connoisseur — was taken by Lyn Boyer. Bruce Gomez was the Artists’ Choice winner while James McGrew earned the People’s Choice Award.

Cody DeLong, “Color Convergence,” oil, 36 x 24 inches
