In this weekly series Kelly Kane, Editor-in-Chief of Plein Air Magazine, shares a favorite painting and artist quote from a recent issue.

Kelly Kane’s Pick of the Week: “Late Afternoon Sun”

“I tend to lose my enthusiasm for a subject fairly quickly. When I’m excited about something, I want to tackle it in the moment, and with watercolor I can wet the paper and cover the entire surface with pigment in a matter of minutes. Because its transparency doesn’t allow for much reworking, the decision-making process is rapid fire with watercolor. You can’t get comfortable, and I enjoy the challenge, whether the results are pleasing or not.”
— Andy Evansen (“More Than One Way to Watercolor,” June-July 2021)
