In the Tequesta/Jupiter area in Florida, the Lighthouse Art Center is sponsoring a plein air event March 20-23. The deadline for entries for that event is February 7; go here for the prospectus. This inaugural event will feature a kids’ paint-out, a public artists’ reception, demos, a quick-draw contest, a wet-painting sale, and a museum sale with a cocktail reception. “We are lucky to be hosting this event by the sea in the beautiful tropical landscape of South Florida, where art and paradise surround us,” says Cynthia Trone, director of education for the Lighthouse Art Center’s School of Art.

The Zion National Park Plein Air Invitational is a coveted event for many painters, with its mix of high-profile artists, stunning scenery, and strong sales. The event in Springdale, Utah, runs November 3-10 this year, with the opening reception slated for November 7. Activities include a competition with more than $25,000 in prizes, demonstrations, a “paint with the pros” paint-out, evening lectures, and “breakfasts with the artists,” which allow interaction with plein air art collectors. Entry deadline is March 1; e-mail Sheri Taylor at [email protected] for details.

Northwest of Philadelphia sits Wayne, Pennsylvania, host of the 8th Annual Wayne Plein Air Festival May 13-17. More than $6,000 in prizes will be handed out at the event, headquartered at the Wayne Art Center. Randall Sexton will serve as the juror. Entry deadline is March 1; the prospectus is online.
